The Stories of Tomorrow Campaign

Help us rebuild the Young Writers Program site.

Do you remember the first time someone told you your writing mattered? There's nothing like that rush of confidence that comes when someone tells you your writing is worth something. That one encouraging voice can make or break our desire to tell our stories. It can determine whether tomorrow's stories get written at all...

This year, we're asking you to help us build a world more welcoming of all of our voices. We're asking you to show your support for tomorrow's stories.

We're asking you to help us rebuild the Young Writers Program site.

The Young Writers Program has impacted my life for the better. It helped me step out of my comfort zone and do something that I never thought I would do.

Campaign goal: $50,000 from 2,000 donors

Campaign dates: June 9 through June 27, 2014

We're raising $50,000 to support the stories of tomorrow by rebuilding our Young Writers Program website.

Plus, be a story advocate.

This year's donor gifts include five-packs of proclamation stickers, encouragement postcards, and accountability posters. Think of your loved ones who need your support in order to start the novel they have inside of them.

Tell the people you love that their stories are important to you. Show the young writers following in your footsteps that we can create a better, more creative world. Help us start tomorrow's stories.

Our goal is to reach 2,000 donors, and 789 people have donated so far.

What is the Young Writers Program?

The Young Writers Program works in over 2,000 classrooms around the world, and with over 100,000 students and educators. The YWP supports writing fluency, self-efficacy, and self-expression in the classroom by providing free-of-charge:

  • classroom resources, including progress-tracking posters and writing workbooks
  • Common Core-aligned curricula
  • virtual classroom management tools
  • mentorship and pep talks from established authors
  • a vibrant online community of support for young writers and educators

The impact on students is clear. In response to our 2013 survey:

  • 90% of students said that NaNoWriMo made them more excited about writing.
  • 86% said that NaNoWriMo helped them learn what they can accomplish when they are determined.
  • 81% said that NaNoWriMo helped them expect more from themselves in the future.
Why a rebuild?

Rebuilding the YWP site will allow us to expand our online tools for educators and young writers. It will help us to grow the community internationally, connecting students with writers from opposite sides of the globe, and share their stories in a secure and safe online space.

As participants in National Novel Writing Month, you've created a community that has helped bring millions of novels to life and made room for brand-new voices. You've set implausible goals and learned to accomplish them one day at a time. You've proven that you're not limited to building worlds on the page; as volunteers and participants, you create real-life creative momentum in your local libraries, classrooms, and neighborhoods.

You are capable of so much. Help us teach students everything they're capable of, too.
